Company: {{company}} What they do: {{what_they_do}} Who I am meeting: {{contact_role}} What I sell: {{my_offer}} Call length: 30 minutes Write a question plan with: 1. Three opening questions about their current process. 2. Four questions that uncover cost, delay, or risk in that process. 3. Two questions about who else is affected and who decides. 4. One closing question that agrees a concrete next step. Keep every question short and open-ended. No jargon. No pitching.

}A small ritual that works
How to use it
- 01Fill in the company, what they do, and who you are meeting.
- 02Paste the filled prompt into your AI tool and read the questions out loud once.
- 03Cut any question you would not actually ask, then take the rest into the call.
Why it works
Most discovery calls fail because the questions are about the product instead of the buyer's current process. This prompt forces the order that works: understand the process first, quantify the pain second, find the decision path third, and only then agree a next step. Asking for open-ended questions stops the model producing yes/no questions that end the conversation early.
Where it fails
It will not help if you already know the account well, because the questions stay deliberately broad. It also struggles when you describe your offer in marketing language: write plainly what you actually do, or the questions drift into a pitch. For technical evaluations with a named shortlist, you need a deeper qualification prompt instead.
Customisation tips
Add a line naming the industry if your buyers use specific vocabulary. If your calls are short, ask for six questions instead of ten.
Watch-outs
- Do not read the questions as a script — it makes the call feel like a survey.
- The model may invent industry facts; ignore anything it asserts about the company.
